Training courses for engineering firms

Last July, El Salvador and Costa Rica developed the First Module of the Training Program; the sessions were aimed at engineering firms, consultants and engineers from member companies of the Salvadorian Industrial Association (ASI) and the Costa Rican Association of Technologist Engineers (CITEC).   This course was given by the Save Energy Fund (Fideicomiso de Ahorro de Energía, FIDE), from Mexico, within the framework of the Cooperation Agreement signed by BUN-CA and FIDE in December 2006.

Thirty-one participants from El Salvador and 30 professionals from Costa Rica were trained in Energy Diagnosis and Savings with Efficient Illumination. The other scheduled modules deal with electric motors (August 2007), air-conditioning (October 2007) and investment plans in energy efficiency projects (November 2007).

Second Training Module for Engineering Firms – Electric Motors

As follow-up to the PEER Yearly Operative Plan, August (August 17-18 in El Salvador and 20-21 in Costa Rica) will hold the Second Training Module in Efficient Motors, specifically in Good Practices and New Motor Technologies.

Follow-up workshop for SME consultants in El Salvador.

Within the framework of the PEER Project, and together with the World Environment Center (WEC), the Exports Fund (FOEX) and the consulting firm PA Consulting, the “SME Training Workshop” will be held in the third week of August. This theory-practice Workshop will count on the participation of consultants trained by the PEER in 2006, in order to reinforce their knowledge within the framework of supporting SMEs.

There will be a practice on the training sessions given, with technical visits and trips to five SMEs that will be proposed by FOEX. The objective of these visits is to prepare technical reports to be submitted to the SMEs, which will identify Good Practices and opportunities to save electrical power.

Hotel Monitoring Activities

BUN-CA is making monitoring visits to each of the Target Hotels as follow-up of Energy Diagnoses to the hotels participating in the PEEST initiative. The monitoring activities being carried out deal with energy conservation opportunities, either to determine with the hotels their interest in valuing the implemented measures or to accompany them in the evaluation of each of the savings opportunities identified.

In this visits, identified Energy Saving Opportunities (OCEs) are evaluated and analyzed with the hotel, including their implementation process.

Presentation of the Bi-national Project to the Tourism Sector

In the city of Leon, Nicaragua, the BUN-CA technical team presented the Bi-national Project on Energy Efficiency for the Nicaragua–Costa Rica Tourism Sector. The activity was organized by Va Pues Tours and Rainforest Alliance, and had the participation of 20 institutions, including the Nicaraguan Tourism Institute (Instituto Nicaragüense de Turismo, INTUR) tour operators and hotels from the Municipality of Leon.
