BUN-CA, jointly with the authorities of the National Secretariat of Energy (SNE) and the Technological University of Panama (UTP), held the National Reporting Meeting where PEER presented the outcomes achieved at country level from 2006 to date, activities that have contributed to trigger energy efficiency markets in the industrial and commercial sectors.
In this event, the SNE shared its views of the growth in electricity demand and a proactive public policy based on the draft-law on energy efficiency in the electricity industry to be submitted to Congress shortly. Also, the UTP showed its commitment as a public academic institution focused on training of professionals for the energy sector, by launching the newly created Center for Research and Innovation Electrical, Mechanical and Industry (CINEMI).
The event was introduced by a motivational message of the representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and counted with the participation of representatives from the academia, trade associations and project developers who have participated actively in the implementation of PEER activities in Panama. BUN-CA, jointly with national authorities of the National Energy Council (CNE), carried out the National Reporting Meeting of PEER, to present the main outcomes achieved at country level in El Salvador from 2006 to date. The event was leaded by representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN), the National Council for Science and Technology (CONACYT) and the Salvadorian Association of Industrialists (ASI) as well USAID / CCAD with whom BUN/CA has coordinated policy efforts since 2006 to trigger energy efficiency markets in El Salvador.
In this event, CNE presented the Energy Policy in El Salvador and the importance of the development of energy efficiency programmes in the national context, on the other hand, ASI shared its experience for the development of technical capacities in the local industry, based on the Program Energy Efficiency that has been implemented to the industrial sector of El Salvador, thanks to the initial impulse provided by PEER.
The event in El Salvador was attended by authorities of the United Nations Program for Development (UNDP), academic sector, and project developers who have participated actively in the implementation of PEER activities in El Salvador, together with representatives of private companies and independent consultants. BUN-CA will carry out the National Reporting Meeting of PEER next August 25 in San Jose, which will present the main outcomes achieved at country level to promote a more sustainable energy consumption culture. BUN-CA jointly with the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) carried out last July 21 the Technical Workshop on "Promotion and Capacity Building for the Implementation of the Technical Regulation on Electrical Equipment Efficient", with co-financing from USAID through the Central American Commission on Environment and Development (CCAD).
In this event, CONACYT and independent specialists presented the Procedures of Conformity Assessment developed by CONACYT to a group of specialists in various technical areas, in order to conform a data base of technical experts to conduct the verification of imported equipment, according to the Salvadoran Standards and Labels (NSO). BUN-CA, jointly with the Association of Small Hotels of El Salvador (HOPES) and in a strategic alliance with the Institute of Economics and Business Administration (ISEADE), carried out the Closing Meeting of the PEEST Programme.
This event was also an opportunity to share the main outcomes achieved in the small hotels that participated in PEEST and have successfully implemented energy conservation measures, that were implemented by the hoteliers and whom received a series of technical training to promote a new culture in the efficient use of electricity.
Likewise, representatives of 4 hotels, HOPES active members, presented the savings achieved from investments realized, which rescues the integration of gender aspects in energy management for small hotels, highlighting the role of women in management and make decisions to get the benefits of these sort of investments.
This event also counted with the participation of the authorities of the National Energy Council (CNE), several donor agencies, trade associations, private sector and beneficiaries of the PEEST Programme. (Gallery, Presentations: Resultados PEEST, EE Oportunidad de Negocio)
BUN-CA, jointly with the Micro-entrepreneurs Association of Tourism of La Fortuna (AMITUFOR), carried out the meeting closing of PEEST Program, in La Fortuna de San Carlos, Costa Rica.
In this event, hoteliers shared their experiences and results obtained by the collaboration of BUN-CA, which have acquired knowledge in the purchase of efficient electrical equipment, application of best practices, reading and interpretation of the electric bill, monitoring and recording electricity consumption, for both men and women who are part of the senior management of the hotels as well as partners in different areas of operation of the Hotel.
This group of hoteliers who participated in PESST have reached a difference in the market to become more competitive by having lower operating costs and distinguish to obtain the Certification for Sustainable Tourism (CST), this thanks to the implementation of efficiency programs energy and good practice measures.
