Workshops “Training on Financing Renewable Energy Projects”
The Regional Director, José Maria Blanco, participated with the paper "The Financial Environment for Energy Efficiency" in the workshop on "Assessment and Financing of Renewable Energy Projects in Central America and Panama, under the Program to Accelerate Investments in Renewable Energy in Central America and Panama: ARECA. The events were held in El Salvador on the 3rd of September, with the participation of 56 attendees, and in Guatemala on the 17th of September, with 53 representatives of commercial banks and private project developers including policy actors and other agencies from the power industry. The objective of these workshops is to support medium and small developers of renewable energy projects, while also presenting investment opportunities around energy efficiency. Upcoming workshops on the subject will take place in Panama and Nicaragua in October and November 2009.
Following the strategy of BUN-CA in the Central American region to establish partnerships with local stakeholders to ensure sustainability of current actions over the long term, under the Energy Efficiency Program in the Tourism Sector (PEEST) on the 22nd of September, an Institutional Cooperation Agreement with the Association of Small Hotels of El Salvador was signed, with the aim of contributing to the implementation of Energy Efficiency projects, as a fundamental part of its strategy for supporting sustainable tourism.
Following-up of activities in the Energy Efficiency Program in the Tourism Sector (PEEST) a mission was conducted between on September 21-25 in order to:
On September 16-17 a follow-up took place in the ITCR Santa Clara academic campus, where technical sessions were held with senior officers in order to define the scope of the scope of the activities to be perform under the Awareness Program on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency.
BUN-CA signed an Institutional Cooperation Agreement with the local Association of Tourism Microentrepreneurs of La Fortuna (AMITUFOR) with the aim of identifying opportunities to continue strengthening knowledge management for small hotels.
Workshop on Energy Efficiency in the Hotel Industry, El Salvador
On September 22nd, 2009, the Salvadoran Association of Industry (ASI) became a window of the Multilateral Investment Bank (BMI), to promote access to US$27 million for projects on energy efficiency and renewable energy. By this means, local companies and industries can also access technical assistance grants (La Prensa Gráfica, 23 September, 2009).
BUN-CA participated on the 1st of October on the Seminar for climate change "An opportunity for energy transition in the industry," with a presentation on "Energy Efficiency: A Business for All". The event was organized by the British Embassy in San Jose, the Center for Competitiveness and Sustainable Development (CLACDS), the INCAE and the Peace for Nature Initiative. (Further information).
BUN-CA participated in the Regional Workshop on Solar Energy, presenting their experiences and barriers for the implementation of Solar Energy in Central America. This workshop was organized by the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM), the Center for Cleaner Production of Nicaragua (CPmL) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). The event took place from the 6th to the 8th of October 2009, at the Hotel Barceló Managua. (See agenda)
BUN-CA will participate in the IV Regional Integration Forum, FIER 2009, with a presentation on Policy and Regulatory Aspects for Enhancing Energy Efficiency.
The Forum is organized by the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), together with the Government of Cuba, regional and international organizations and governmental institutions. It will be held on the 28th and 29th of October 2009, in Havana, Cuba.
E+Co Capital, along with BUN-CA and the Chamber of Industry of Costa Rica (CICR) will conduct on the 14th of October 2009, in San Jose, the "Business Meeting: Promoting and Financing for Energy Efficiency Projects” which aims at raising awareness of the opportunities for financing energy efficiency projects. It is expected a participation of over 50 representatives from local business and tourism sectors.
The Council for Harmonization of Electrotechnical Standards of the American Nations (CANENA), the Association for Standardization and Certification (ANCE) of Mexico, the Institute of technical norms of Costa Rica (INTECO) and BUN-CA, are organizing in San Jose, Costa Rica, the regional event: "Energy efficiency and electrical safety - Priorities for America", with the central topic of standardization of efficient electrical equipment. The event will take place the 2nd and 4th of March 2010.
